摘要

Salvaging is an important and critical activity of longwall mining. Since it is an unproductive activity, it has to be completed in minimum time with maximum safety. Withdrawal of powered roof supports contributes to major component of salvage period which requires skilled man power to be deployed under close supervision. Proper planning of salvaging activities in advance and adequate supporting of salvage face not only eliminates delay but also provides safety to the persons employed. Face stop line is suitably selected in a stress free and safe zone with respect to periodical weighting and local geological disturbances to facilitate safe withdrawal of powered roof supports. Unlike to this, if supports have to be withdrawn from a face which cannot move forward due to severe strata control problems, it a very difficult and risky task which requires careful planning and patience. This paper explains salvage operations carried out in a longwall face under severe strata control problems.
