Based on the analysis of economic development and energy structure in China, the paper points out that coal still is the primary energy resource in first twenty years of this century in China. Analyzing the current serious problems of coal utilization indicates that coal can be prepared high efficiently before burning. And the best solution to realize the optimum configuration of coal production and consumption is to establish large-scale pithead combined heat and power plants with Chinese characteristics.
