摘要

I took the opportunity to do a semester internship at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology (CARB) which is a part of the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI) because I had never worked in a lab before and was interested in how it was and whether I would like it. It was important to me because my career goal was, and still is, to get a Ph.D. in biology and work as a researcher. Thus, to be sure this is the right thing for me to do, it was important to get a fi rst hand experience of the daily life in a lab. After completing the internship I am confi dent that I picked the right major and I am sure about my plans to pursue a Ph.D. in biology.
