Born in Bucharest on 15th May 1900, Arthur Kreindler graduated in medicine at the age of 26 with the thesis "The vegetative tonus and its pharmaceutical probes". He lived in an age of intense activity and discoveries in the field of neurology, which made him choose this specialty. Gheorghe Marinescu, the internationally renowned scientist and disciple of the Salpetriere school of French neurology, wanting to set up a neurophysiology laboratory, had quickly appreciated young Arthur Kreindler's qualities and in 1927 sent him to Paris for a residency. The experience gained there from great personalities like Marey, Bour-guignon and Clovis Vincent, helped him in setting up, with O. Sager, the first neurophysiology laboratory in Marinescu's Clinic (1928-1930) . In 1953 he co-authored with Marinescu the monograph "Les Reflexes Conditionnelles", a publication that won the Herpin award of the Parisian Academy of Medicine. Kreindler's further experience in studying conditioned reflexes in physiology and psychiatry on animal and human subjects was condensed in another book, published in 1947 . In 1937 he contributed to a monograph in the field of neurophysiology (together with Marinescu, Ionescu-Sisesti and Sager), entitled "Les tonus des muscles stries", with a complimentary foreword by Sir Charles Sherrington.
