摘要

The meetings of the Orthopaedic Research Society provide a worldwide forum for presentation and discussion of the most important and exciting advances in musculoskeletal research. Critical components of the annual meeting are the Orthopaedic Research Society Spotlight and Workshop sessions; these programs bring together outstanding investigators from a wide variety of scientific disciplines to present emerging research results and approaches that have the potential to change clinical practice. Recognizing the importance of these sessions for promoting innovative research, the Journal of Orthopaedic Research Editorial Advisory Board and the Journal Editors will invite brief articles to provide updates and perspectives on important and exciting research presented in the Workshops and Spotlight Sessions, as well as other Orthopaedic Research Society Programs. The purpose of these articles is to place in perspective research developments and directions and to stimulate critical comments and discussions. The Research Perspectives articles will focus on specific topics but will be designed to be of broad interest to Orthopaedic Research Society members and our other readers from the orthopaedic and musculoskeletal communities. Perspective articles will be concise, and the editors will make every effort to ensure that these articles are published expeditiously. We hope to publish four to six research perspective articles each year. This issue of the Journal of Orthopaedic Research includes two such articles; "Don't Hedge Your Bets: Hedgehog Signaling as a Central Mediator of Endochondral Bone Development and Cartilage Diseases" by Jason Rockel and Ben Alman and "Post-traumatic Osteoarthritis: Improved Understanding and Opportunities for Early Intervention" by Don Anderson and coworkers. We invite comments and suggestions.
