I first met Maurizio Binazzi in the 1960s: I was a young graduate; he at the threshold of the highest academic position, which he achieved a few years later. The external appearance was of a rough man, simple, and quick-mannered; yet, underneath that leathery exterior hid an open, cultured person, full of humanity and continuously searching for intelligent solutions to all kinds of problems.
