摘要

The unexpected inauguration of Indonesia's fifth president, Megawati Sukarnoputri, on July 23, following the forced departure of her predecessor could stabilize Indonesian politics and translate into a more favorable climate for foreign investment, some politicians and economists say.But serious uncertainty still hangs over the nation's coal mining industry about where Megawati stands on recent decisions to grant greater autonomy-including the collection of mine royalties and mine licensing authority-to Indonesia's regional governments. The regional autonomy laws have not been fully implemented yet and their uncertain status and implementation still cast a shadow over Indonesian coal mining's future.
