The 2000 United States (US) Census reported increasing diversity among the 281.4 million people surveyed, with 13% Black or African American, 13% Hispanic, 4% Asian, and 7% other ethnic groups. The multicultural US population challenges educators to offer courses to help college students value diversity by enhancing their cultural knowledge. According to the Association of American Colleges and Universities, more than 60% of the colleges and universities they surveyed required students to take a diversity course to prepare future graduates for a multicultural society
