Efforts were made to achieve indirect regeneration in Centella asiatica (L.), a medicinal plant of high economic importance. Successful callus induction and subsequent organogenesis was obtained using leaf and petiole explants. Irrespective of explants used, Murashige and Skoog (MS) media supplemented with benzylaminopurine (BAP) and naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) were more conducive for callusing than that with BAP alone. Leaf explants were found to be superior towards callus induction response. On anaverage 86.67% of leaf explants exhibited callusing on MS media supplemented with BAP (2 mg/1) and NAA (0.1 mg/1). Shoot organogenesis occurred in the same kind of media. Maximum of 30.67 shoots of 5.66 cm length were obtained from calli derived from petiole on the same kind of media. Cent per cent shoots could induce roots in quarter strength MS media containing 0.3 mg/1 indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). All the rooted plantlets were hardened on substrate containing a mixture of vermicompost and sand (4 :1).
