Coatings and adhesives have a difficult relationship with recycling. When the concept of circular economy is used, coatings help to extend the lifetime of products, and thereby support a longer life of materials in the economy. When it comes to recycling, coatings mostly add complex extra materials, colours, ingredients and melting points. Unless adhesives can enable decoupling of layers on demand, and support rather than block recycling.
