A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of the crop year 1998 and 1999 in fields having sandy clay loam texture with pH 8.0;0.51 and 0.55% organic carbon;187 and 170 kg ha~(-1) available K,respectively.The treatments were laid out in split plot design with three replications.Two levels of nitrogen-100 and 200 kg N ha~(-1)constitute main plots and two levels of potassium -75 and 150 kg K_2O ha~(-1)applied full dose at transplating (TP),1/2 at TP+1/2 at maximum tillering (MT)and 1/3 at TP+1/3 at MT+1/3 at panicle emergence (PE)were the sub-plots.One absolute control was kept withg main plot as well as in sub-plot treatments.Using quadratic response function,economic optimum dose as well as in sub-plot treatments.Using quadratic response functin,economic optimum dose of N for hybrid rice was calculated as 165.5 kg ha~(-1).The application of N significantly increased agronomic and physioogical K use efficiency.Application of 75 kg K_2O ha~(-1)enhanced agronomic K use efficiency significantly over level of 150 kg K_2O ha~(-1).
