Skin aging is due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors where genetic predisposition and sun exposure play a major role.1"3 When a human gets older, structural alterations at the molecular level lead to aged skin: collagen production slows, elastin production decreases, fat cells begin to disappear, the skin loses it's ability to retain moisture and lines appear due to muscle contractions under in-elastic skin. Previous studies have suggested that skin collagen is affected by the loss of estrogen production by the ovaries and as skin collagen content decreases in the postmenopausal years there is an increase in skin laxity and wrinkles.4'5
