摘要

The brain's emotion processing system is briefly discussed as a model for understanding the emotional benefits of expressive writing. The act of writing integrates both brain functioning and subjective experience.Expressive writing helps people emotionally. This reality is obvious in many clinical and artistic contexts and thanks to the line of research started by James Pennebaker, this fact is now documented in the terms of empirical science (Frattaroli, 2006; Pennebaker, 1990; Sheese, Brown, & Graziano, 2004; Smyth, 1998). The definitive statement about why this is true or exactly how it works may never be made because the ways writing about important experiences help people emotionally are as varied as the people themselves. But brain science can provide a structure and tangible logic for understanding writing as a tool of emotion management.
