The focus of this article is on the clinical utility of poetry therapy for people diagnosed with schizophrenia (SCZ). The neurological basis of metaphor processing is also briefly reviewed. A theoretical link between poetry and neuroscience is addressed with subsequent implications for clinical practice. The author found that various methods of poetry therapy can be used to effectively treat schizophrenic symptoms despite the language impairments implicated in SCZ.
