摘要

In the wake of the digital revolution and smartphone proliferation, texting has become common. Adolescents prefer texting to other methods of communication, either electronic or face-to-face. A recent study of pediatric hospi-talists has suggested that physicians, too, are using texting and prefer it to other modalities. In psychiatry, few guidelines exist about navigating the interface between clinical practice and texting. Those guidelines that do exist about any technology tend to focus on how clinicians should restrict online behavior rather than on the nuances of clinical interactions with patients. Instead of focusing on "do's and don'ts," child psychiatrists might consider core tenets of good clinical care.
