Jemal et al. described the escalating estimates of some human papillomavi-rus (HPV)-associated cancers (1), and Brisson et al. (2) offered that there are tremendous inequalities seen in these cancer incidences by socioeconomic status and racial/ethnic groups. Uptake in HPV vaccination, a possible prevention step for HPV-associated sexually transmitted cancers, is highly encouraged and intensely targeted to young women with additional recommendations for boys and young men (3). Static models and models using individual sexual transmission dynamics show that adding young men to the HPV vaccination schedule is only potentially cost effective for cervical cancer prevention if there is a low coverage rate among young women (4). US health policy preferences push achieving a high coverage rate of young women instead of relying on possible herd immunity from both sexes of a partially vaccinated population.
