摘要

In a study of the process of carbonization (coking) of coal blends under laboratory conditions it is important to provide the possibility of producing representative samples of coke for a subsequent estimation of its quality characteristics. This condition is met to a certain extent by the method used in laboratory practice for producing coke upon heating of a coal charge from the vertical wall made of four hollow fireclay brick.* The wall is electrically heated by means of nonmetallic rod-type heaters inserted coaxially into the hollows of refractories. On both sides of the heating division wall are coking chambers, into which is charged a coal blend enclosed in paper packets. The free space in the chambers is then filled with a coal blend which is not to be studied. The coking process occurs under conditions of one-sided heating of coal charges 60 mm wide up to 950-1000 deg C. The mode of heating employed is characterized by an extremely nonuniform distribution of temperature in the bulk of the coal charge and, as a consequence, by the production of a coke of nonuniform properties.
