The temperature of division-wall brickwork on the chamber side immediately after charging of the cold coal blend may fall below the temperature of phase transitions of Dinas brick. An adequate equation is proposed for the dependence of the brickwork temperature on the coking period and the moisture of the coal blend; coke-oven batteries with oven chambers 7 m high must not operate with coking periods longer than 19 hrs. With longer coking periods and a corresponding decrease in the temperature in control heating flues the brickwork temperature after charging may fall below the level of the temperature of phase transitions of Dinas brick. In order to prevent this undesirable phenomenon, the temperature in control heating flues must be somewhat higher than that recommended by rules and regulations for given periods, at least in the zone of the maximum density of the coal blend (opposite the extreme charging holes).
