The photocatalytic bleaching of methylene blue over CdS powder was carried out in the presence and absence of sodium bicarbonate/carbonate.A comparison was made between the rate of photobleaching of methylene blue with and without bicarbonate or carbonate ions.It was observed that the photobleaching was more efficient in the presence of bicarbonate or carbonate ions.The effects of various parameters have been observed and a tentative mechanism for the photobleaching has been proposed.
