摘要

Integrated cotton cultivation or contract farming can improve the productivity and quality of cotton, reduce cost of production and increase profitability of farmer. It also ensures abundant supply of the type of cotton needed by the consumer. It integrates scientific method of cotton cultivation with assured supply of quality inputs, marketing and processing of cotton. Contract farming projects undertaken by Cotton Corporation of India, along with Bayer CropScience, Mumbai, Super Spinning Mill Coiinbatore, Appachi Cotton Mill, Coimbatore and others have succeeded in fulfilling the objectives of contract farming and more and more areas are coming under the programme in different parts of the country. There are however several constraints which needto be addressed for promoting the programme. Participation of more mills / ginning factories, support of ММП of Technology mission on cotton and conducting awareness meetings on the benefits of contract farming will go a long way to promote contract farming, so important in the present context of global competitiveness.
