Keuffel & Esser produced numerous specialized slide rulesover the years: Chemist's Duplex (4160), RoyLance Electrical(4133, possibly the best of the Electro/Elektros), and the KurtzPsychrometric (4175) to mention but three. The Surveyor'sDuplex, 4102/N4102 (Figure 1), discussed here is a true mas-terpiece of slide rule design. We will discuss the historicalbackground (Clark) first, followed by the slide rule's theoryand operation (Richard).
