In a clinically normal alignment, the mandibular canine teeth interdigitate in the interproximal space between the maxillary canine and third incisor teeth. There should be no contact between the teeth, gingiva, or hard palate. In cases where the mandibular canine teeth interfere with the hard palate, trauma will occur. This palatal trauma can lead to sequelae ranging from mild periodontal pocketing to oronasal fistula.' A 7-month-old, 45.2 kg intact/male Rhodesian Ridgeback dog presented for evaluation and treatment of a malocclusion causing palatal trauma. No other historical concerns were mentioned by the owner. The patient was not medicated, and had a good appetite and energy level.
