Having suffered badly from bad weather and diseases such as coffee leaf rust in recent years, coffee farmers in Colombia, many of whom have replanted with the newly-developed, disease-resistance Castillo variety, have seen production rebound, but seeit doing so at a time when prices have fallen steeply, to around US$1.30 on 'C market in New York. Production has returned to historic levels, between 12 and 13 million bags, levels that are comparable to the peak growing year of 2008, when Colombia produced 12.5 million bags.
