摘要

Foliar epidermal characters and trichome structure of ten species of Clerodendrum L. (Verbenaceae), available in Assam, have been investigated to the extent of their utility in assessment of taxo-nomic significance. Mature stomata were of anomocytic type, which gave the genus an advanced entity in the family. Contiguous type of abnormalities were frequent. Epidermal cells were predominantly polygonal to irregular in shape. Five types of non-glandular and glandular trichomes have been recognized. Foliar trichome was found to be absent in C. divaricatum. The closest relation between C. hastatum and C. speciosum with aggregate difference (115.85) and maximum difference between C. divaricatum and C. wallichii (1203.68) were observed. All these characters provide good taxonomic criteria at species level. A key has been prepared for the identification of species.
