摘要

In recent years, considerable research has been done to evaluate the health-promoting activities of plant nutraceuticals. It has been frequently reported that consumption of fruits and vegetables that contain high amounts of phenolic compounds tend toreduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases (Ayaz et al, 2008). Phenolic acids represent a group of secondary plant metabolites that have demonstrated potential for blood pressure-lowering activity both in vitro and in spontaneously hypertensive rats (Alam et al 2013; Al Shukor et al 2013; Geng et al 2010; Thekkumkara et al 2012). These activities have been linked to the inhibition of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) (Al Shukor et al 2013; Geng et al 2010).
