According to Euromonitor's latest report on the Japanese coffee sector (Japan Coffee 2015) retail volume sales of coffee grew by 1 per cent to reach a level of 111,580 tonnes, whilst retail value sales grew by 5 per cent to reach a level of ￥464.8 billion in 2014. The report said an increase in commodity prices and a weakening Yen as well as a tax increase were responsible for the increased in the retail price of coffee in 2014. Euromonitor said foodservice volume sales grew faster than retail volume sales in 2014 thanks to the growing popularity of coffee sold in convenience stores.
