Medina-Franco and associates of the Department of Surgery, National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition, "Salvador Zubiran," Mexico City, Mexico, provides data for the first prospective comparison of wire-localized technique with radioactive occult lesion localization (ROLL) of non-palpable breast masses. In this randomized trial of 100 consecutive women that present to their radiologists and/or surgeons with non-palpable breast lesions, utilization of the ROLL technique provides the injection under breast-imaging control using 99mTc-label particles of human serum albumin that is thereafter guided by gamma camera to indicate residual volume in the margins of excision intraoperatively. As indicated by the authors, the current tradition has been surgical biopsy of this lesion with wire-localization which has been utilized as both a diagnostic and therapeutic tool
