Boeckeler (1874) described Scleria alta based on two syntypes, i.e., 'Mont. Khasia Indiae Orient' and a collection by Griffith from Bengalia. The type studied by Boeckeler (in B) was destroyed during World War II (R. Vogt pers. comm., 2005). Griffith's specimen at K is well preserved with mature nutlets and, therefore, it is chosen as the lectotype of S, alta.
