Three fungal diseases, powdery mildew caused by Sphaerotheca pannosa var msec, blackspot caused by Diplocarpon rosae; and rust caused by Phragmidium spp. are often encountered in the home garden. Two other fungal diseases, grey mold caused by Botrytis cinerea, and downy mildew caused by Peronospora sparsa are found more often in commercial greenhouses (Horst 1983) (see Box A for a description of these diseases).
