The poinsettia [Euphorbia pulcherrima] variety trial held by the Minoprio Foundation in 1999 allowed the comparision of 21 cultivars with red bracts. Many of these cultivars are recently introduced in the Italian market and two are selections from an Italian breeder in a pre-commercial stage. De Lux 98, a dark-leaved variety, was regarded as the best by a panel of experts, followed by two green leaved varieties, Santa Claus Early and Extreme. Red Cortez, Succes and Bright Red Freedom confirmed thegood performances reported in the 1998 trial.
