The old adage is, that in order, to make money, you have to spend money. Well, in the apple business, there is no truer statement than that. In order to remain competitive in today's high stakes apple production business, you need to have the best varieties and best production systems available. To do this requires large amounts of capital. Most modern high density production systems have an establishment cost of a minimum of $20,000/ acre all the way up to $50,000/acre. With that being the case, what are you doing to protect this investment? You wouldn't think of leaving the auto dealership without insurance on your brand new $40,000pickup, so why on earth would you not protect your $40,000/acre income producing apple operation?
