The paper gives the formal definition of avionics system architecture. The three aspects of architecture: operational, system and technical are considered. It allows to define the set of documents necessary to provide the comprehensive description of system from different points of view, and organize its development, usage and interaction with other systems. The formal description of architecture is provided as basis for further development of mathematical model.
