The Spanish HIV HGM BioBank (SHIVBB) was set up in 2003 following a grant received from the Spanish Network in AIDS Research (Red Espa?ola de Inivestigación en SIDA; RED RIS (Red Temática de Investigación Cooperativa Sanitaria ISCIII (RETIC RD06/0006/0035). Forty-three hospitals spread across Spain participate in the SHIVBB. Physically, the SHIVBB is located in the Laboratorio de Inmuno-Biología Molecular of the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Mara?ón in Madrid. Only this biobank is responsible for the preservation and storage of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) samples. The samples collected by the SHIVBB represent the Spanish population with HIV infection.
