摘要

MOST BIOBANKS are small organizations for which the rate limiters to growth and service delivery are resources. These include human resources, facilities/buildings, capital equipment and finances. Services are designed and delivered around what can be achieved with limited resources rather than what the scientific community requires or the donors expect. Choices on storage modalities, bio-refinery service offerings, sample procurement, quality management systems, sample monitoring and tracking and information acquisition and management are limited by the capacity of resources, principally financial, and the constrained capabilities of staff and equipment. These limitations are pragmatic, but contribute to the inability of many biobanks to offer the services their scientific clients require.
