Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is widely used to evaluate right ventricular (RV) function, but it is difficult to measure RV volume. Standardized cardiovascular MR (SCMR) imaging protocols for 2013 recommend the use of axial or left ventricular (LV) short-axis views to measure RV volume. We analyze the measurement of RV volume using the LV short-axis view, which requires no additional images, and add the RV long-axis view as a reference of measurement. We have compared RV end diastolic volume (EDV), end systolic volume (ESV), stroke volume (SV), and ejection fraction (EF) by measurement with and without the use of RV long-axis view. In the measurement with the RV long-axis view, we can clearly recognize the tricuspid and pulmonary valves and appropriately remove the right atrial volume. Exact measurement of RV volume using the RV long-axis view improves the reproducibility of evaluation of RV function.
