Recently, it becomes very important for revegatation works to restore natural forests. Natural selection is required by seeding various seeds and planting various seedlings of native trees to restore natural forests. In this case, seedlings are little and have shallow roots, therefore, they are easily to die by drying and erosion of surface soils and competition with herbage. Mulching was thought to be very effective to prevent these pressures. Then, water-retention effect of macadam mulch and woody mulch(willows) were determined, and both were effective to retain water of surface soils.
