摘要

Airway remodelling is associated with long-term tissue injury and repair that could occur in response to inflammation, antigen exposure and chemical or mechanical injury. In allergic inflammation of airways, if not adequately treated, it can result in permanent structural changes. These structural changes include increased smooth muscle mass, sub-epithelial fibrosis, increased mucous glands, as well as epithelial and vascular changes. Unfortunately, these structural changes, once they occur, are often irreversible and lead to a permanent reduction in lung function.
