Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRS with NP) is an important and prevalent disease with a substantial impact on the health and quality of life of those who suffer from it. Despite ongoing research, our understanding of CRS withNP is hindered by its complex underlying pathogenesis. Allergic sensitization, genetic factors (i.e. cystic fibrosis), asthma and aspirin sensitivity, local eosinophilia, and the local presence of colonizing Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxins or fungi create an environment for the dynamic interplay of multiple factors that may contribute to CRS with NP. However, the role of each of these factors and how they interact have not yet been fully elucidated.
