In communications it used to be said "the message is the thing". These days it is not so much "the message" as the delivery of the message. At the present time, the Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C{sup}3I) market appears to be continuing at a healthy growth rate, especially in correlation to other defense industry areas such as weapons and platforms. This growth is mainly due to the ever changing warfare environment of the modern world and the need for advanced communications systems in an era where new platforms are too expensive to produce. Thus the key to the market in the coming years will be on upgrades and enhancements to electronics components allowing platforms to remain in active service longer than originally planned.
