The C{sup}4I market is forecast to be one of the most (if not the most) robust areas primed for business growth in the worldwide defense industry. Such escalation is largely due to the ever changing threat environment and the urgent need for more and better information to deal with emerging dangers. The events of September 11, 2001, and the subsequent war on terrorism have definitely affected the defense business, but not in the overt, robust way as many expected. Instead, the change has been more subtle, with large amounts of money being pumped into programs to accelerate advanced research and development to get systems in operational field use quicker than had originally being scheduled for this new battle arena. Along with R&D acceleration, procurement has also quietly increased its tempo. Many advanced orders are being put through not only to fight terrorism, but also to prepare for a possible war with Iraq (and the remote possibility of some action against North Korea).
