Uysterectomy remains the most common gynecologic procedure in the United States; approximately 600,000 hysterectomies are performed each year, the majority of which are for benign disease.1 Minimally invasive approaches to hysterectomy have well-documented advantages, yet abdominal hysterectomy remains the most common mode of access, accounting for more than 60% of all hysterectomies performed in the United States as of 2005.
