摘要

As a part of the carbon cycle of the biosphere and also a product of geological activity, carbon dioxide (CO_2) is naturally present in Earth's atmosphere and plays a role in the thermal regulation of the planet. The global environmental effect of human-related CO_2 emissions has recently come into the spotlight because of the realization that an increased concentration of CO_2 in the atmosphere can contribute to the Earth's global warming with potentially catastrophic consequences. Therefore, techniques aiming for the benign capture, storage, and transformation of CO_2 into usable chemicals are currently sought.
