摘要

In conclusion, the formation of compound 5 from compound 3 shows that covalent chemistry of fullerene can serve as a soft method for the deletion and trapping of a fullerene skeleton atom. The oxidative cleavage of three adjacent double bonds around the same pentagon of C_(60) is reminiscent of the longitudinal unzipping of SWCNTs (single wall carbon nanotubes) by KMnO_4/H_2SO_4 into graphene nanoribbons. The present results indicate a strong tendency for the empty cavity in fullerenes to attract a guest to form endohedral complexes. Chemical synthesis of other endohedral fullerenes should be feasible by using suitable precursors.
