Car painting has now become an official and permanent category in the Skills Canada Manitoba and national competitions, effective this year. The category was offered for a few years in the late 1990s or so, but now has national industry support, says Lawrence Danylchuk, provincial chair of Skills Canada Manitoba, National Technical Committee (NTC) member, and Team Canada Autobody Expert. In Manitoba this year, the category is called Paint and Autobody, but next year, there will be two separate categories. No Canadian has competed at World Skills since 2001 in the Car Painting Category, so it was time to bring back the category to stay, especially since the world competition will be held in Canada this year, in Calgary.
