The Ontario government is introducing new initiatives with the hopes that they will reduce costs and uncertainty in the auto insurance system, including the enhancement of towing industry oversight. Consultations are underway to develop a province-wide system to oversee the towing industry. A review of vehicle storage issues and collision repair practices will also be conducted. The Ontario government is responding to recommendations in the Task Force report on Insurance Fraud issues released last year and looking for ways that reducing fraud will help lead to lower vehicle insurance premiums. The government has committed to an average 15% insurance premium reduction target over two years. The Ministry of Consumer Services has been allocated the responsibility to identify ways to both reduce insurance costs and to address public concern with vehicle collision management.
