摘要

With growing concern that women are still failing to progress in scientific careers, many countries are trying to address the problem. The British government has just received a hard-hitting report with recommendations for swift action to tackle the problems. Nigel Williams reports. Everyone knows that women do not keep up with their male peers in pursuit of scientific careers, as in many other fields. Much has been done to raise awareness of the problems -- in the UK alone there are 70 organisations working to improve the lot of women in science -- but problems persist. Baroness Greenfield, a neurosciences professor at the University of Oxford and member of parliament's upper chamber, has now produced a report which she hopes will provide clear guidelines for the government to be able seriously to tackle the problem.
