A theoretical model has been developed to evaluate the transport processes in a crevice area formed by disbondment of a coating on a steel pipeline. This model is able to simulate concentration and conductivity distributions along the disbondment as well as potential and current distributions taking into account the changes with respect to time before steady state has been attained. The model is applied to recent experimental data on crevice corrosion of disbanded pipelines. Several conditions have been simulated including different applied potentials, electrolytes and starting steel surface conditions. Good agreement is found between modeled and measured results.
