The variation of fruit nutritional quality of four different varieties ('Dora', 'Irma', 'Patty', and 'Sveva') in four different years of production (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) was compared in order to explore the relationships among year and the possible variations due to the genotype and specific annual climatic conditions. Fruit nutritional and sensory quality was analyzed by detecting the following parameters: fruit color, firmness, soluble solids, and total acidity; and nutritional parameters: total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and total polyphenoles (TPH). The results confirm the importance of the genotype in defining the fruit nutritional quality but also the strong influence of the annual climatic conditions in changing plant and fruit behavior, particularly, of some genotypes. The annual trends of the climate parameters (mainly temperature) during the ripening period also influenced fruit quality and nutritional parameters. This type of study can be considered of interest to better identify genotypes with a more stable performance in terms of fruit nutritional quality at different climatic conditions so as to guarantee higher quality standards to the consumer even at changing climatic conditions.
