Of the total acreage of soft fruit crops such as strawberry, currants, raspberry, and highbush blueberry, only a few hectares are grown in greenhouses or polyethylene tunnels in Finland. The prevailing weather influences directly on growth and quality of the yield and indirectly by pests and diseases. In the 2000s, the heat summations in every growing period have been higher than the mean values in 1961-1990. At the same time, the winter temperatures have been higher. These changes have already brought out signs of the effect of warming climate in the occurrence of pests in soft fruits. The vine weevil is considered the most serious emerging pest, and the newly invaded Spanish slug is a potential new pest on strawberry. Strawberry is considered as the most vulnerable soft fruit in a changing climate, mainly due to emerging pests and invading new pests.
