摘要

Chestnut provide income and benefits for people by producing wood and non-wood products. Anatolian chestnut (Castanea sativa) is a forest tree and has pure or mixed forests especially in the Black Sea, Marmara and Ege Regions of Turkey. Since its fruit has economical importance and its wood for ship-building, social and ecological problems has increased within chestnut areas. Ownership and beneficial use of chestnut areas have not been solved exactly. This paper discusses the role of the General Directorate of Forestry in solving these problems with forest villagers. Solutions include initiation of education and training programme and political efforts related to rehabilitation of degraded or destroyed chestnut forests and widening of its lands. An overview of the chestnut (forest) areas and their legal problems is presented. In addition, fruit production and export, problems of forest villagers, their activities, and administrative, scientific, legal and other works related to actual situations are determined. Some determinations aimed at the problems and new forestry politics are discussed.
